tips | caring for hex hoops
The hex hoops are designed to be worn every day, but their durability and care depends on size and material. First of all, the smallest sizes of hex hoops are not meant to be frequently removed. They are meant to be kept in for long periods of time, because their size and delicacy means they can take on more wear and tear than larger sizes.
If you’re someone who likes to switch out your earrings frequently, they may not be for you. Try going at least a size up for the medium hoops, or consider the larger hex hoops. These ones are forgiving enough to be combined with your favourite little charms or pendants for a more versatile look, or even a hex or regular stacking ring to fetching effect.
Things to know about before you put them in to extend the lifespan of your hex hoops:
Avoid opening the hex hoop in such a way that you pull the hexagon out of shape, or where you distort the fixed angle of the hex hoop at the bottom by pulling it wider apart.
Instead, gently flex the hoop so it opens, while still maintaining spring tension. You do not want to push beyond that tension — doing so will weaken the hoop itself.
Think of how you’d use a paperclip, and how you know how far to torque it before it bends out of shape.
Do not torque the hex hoop back and forth
If you’re struggling, don’t hesitate to have someone give you a hand, or to take your time in front of a mirror.
The same principles apply to larger hoops, but those are more forgiving. And while I’ve personally slept in mine for weeks at a time, that may not fly for some people!
Thank you for purchasing (or considering purchasing) a pair of hex hoops. I hope they give you many years of enjoyment!
